Son of Famous Hungarian Singer Convicted in USA After Secret Service Investigation
The son of famous Hungarian singer János Bródy, Dániel Miklós Bródy, has made headlines in the Hungarian media after being sentenced to prison in the United States. The 38-year-old has been ordered to pay almost USD 530,000 in compensation for intentionally damaging a computer network and stealing valuable computer code from his former employer.
According to reports from index.hu, Mr. Bródy, who is the son of a well-known Hungarian musician, worked as a cloud engineer for the First Republic Bank in San Francisco before it was acquired by JPMorgan Chase. He was fired in March 2020 for violating company policy and pleaded guilty to two charges in April 2023.
The United States Attorney’s Office revealed that Bródy used his company-issued laptop to access the bank’s computer network without authorization, causing substantial damage. He also deleted the bank’s code repositories, ran a malicious script to delete logs, and impersonated other bank employees. Judge Orrick determined the total cost of the damage to be at least $220,621.22 and ordered Bródy to pay restitution totaling $529,266.37. He has also been sentenced to serve three years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
Interestingly, the investigation was conducted by the US Secret Service. Dániel Miklós Bródy has been living in the United States since 2014.
The news of Bródy’s criminal actions has shocked many in Hungary and raised concerns about the repercussions of his actions on the reputation of his famous father. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact the family’s standing in the Hungarian music industry.
