President Ersin Tatar Accepts UN Secretary-General Guterres Invitation to New York
President Ersin Tatar has accepted an invitation from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to travel to New York. Tatar expressed his willingness to attend the meeting as an opportunity to share his thoughts, views, and current political stance with the other party. He emphasized that this decision should not be seen as a step back, contrary to what some circles might claim.
During a recent meeting with leaders of political parties represented in Parliament, Tatar briefed them on his upcoming trip to New York. He also mentioned plans to meet with the People’s Party Chairman, Kudret Özersay, and the Communal Democracy Party Chairman, Zeki Çeler.
President Tatar highlighted the importance of maintaining communication and dialogue, stating that any official negotiation process would require confirmation of sovereign equality and equal international status. He also mentioned his interactions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the 79th UN General Assembly, where they discussed the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the need for economic, diplomatic, and political relations to develop.

He pointed out the challenges faced by Turkish Cypriots due to embargoes and restrictions and called for a more favorable stance from the international community.
President Tatar expressed readiness to cooperate with Greek Cypriot Administration President Nikos Hristodulidis on various issues, including energy, water, culture, and economy. He highlighted the importance of energy cooperation with Turkey for the TRNC’s development.
In conclusion, Tatar reiterated his commitment to the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people and the development of the TRNC with the support of Turkey. He expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue and cooperation to find mutually beneficial solutions for both communities.
