STAR Refinery Cuts Back on Crude Oil Imports

STAR Refinery Imports Significant Crude Oil Volume in Early 2025
The STAR Refinery, a key asset of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) located in Türkiye, has reported substantial crude oil imports for the beginning of 2025. According to data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), the refinery imported approximately 1.758 million tons of crude oil during the first two months of the year.
This significant import volume underscores STAR Refinery’s role in meeting the energy needs of the region and its contribution to Türkiye’s oil processing capabilities. The refinery, which has been operational since late 2018, is equipped to refine various crude oil grades, enhancing its operational flexibility.
As demand for refined petroleum products continues to grow, the STAR Refinery is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting both domestic and international markets. The import figures reflect a strategic approach by SOCAR to ensure a steady supply of crude oil, allowing the refinery to maintain its production levels.
This development is indicative of the broader trends in the oil market, where importation strategies are crucial for refining operations amidst evolving geopolitical and economic landscapes. The STAR Refinery’s activities are closely monitored by industry stakeholders, emphasizing its importance in the energy sector in Türkiye and beyond.
