Steve Barakatt Reflects on Experience in Kazakhstan
World-renowned composer and pianist Steve Barakatt recently made his first visit to Kazakhstan, where he performed at the prestigious Astana Opera on March 8 in honor of International Women’s Day. Describing the country as a dynamically developing and trendy place, Barakatt expressed his admiration for Kazakhstan’s winter climate, which reminded him of his home and the warm welcome he received during his stay.
As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in Canada for over two decades, Barakatt was impressed by Kazakhstan’s dedication to supporting children and improving their quality of life. Having traveled extensively across Asia, he highlighted Kazakhstan’s unique blend of European and Asian values, shaped by its Soviet era influence, and praised the country’s artistic and cultural richness in areas such as music, ballet, and art.
Barakatt also shared his interest in Kazakh traditional music and his plans for potential collaborations with local musicians, including the renowned artist Dimash Quandaiberg. With a career spanning over 30 years, Barakatt has performed in more than 500 concerts across five continents and collaborated with major international artists and brands. His music has been featured in global sports broadcasts, such as the FIFA World Cup and Formula 1 Grand Prix, reaching millions of listeners worldwide.
