Students Disappointed by Lack of Discounted Train Tickets
Uzbekistan Railways Faces Ticket Shortage Issue for Student Discount Promotion
Uzbekistan Railways recently made headlines with their announcement of a 50% discount on local train tickets for students of higher education institutions across the country. However, a visit to the online ticket platform revealed that all tickets for popular routes such as Tashkent–Urgench, Tashkent–Bukhara, and Tashkent–Nukus from December 23 to 31 were already sold out, leaving many students disappointed.
Upon visiting a train station in the capital city, a Kun.uz reporter spoke to students who confirmed the lack of availability for these sought-after routes and dates. Despite the discount promotion, many students were unable to secure tickets for their journeys, with some resorting to checking in person at ticket offices.
Students expressed their frustration with the ticket purchasing process, citing delays and additional documentation requirements beyond presenting a student ID. While some managed to find return tickets for certain routes, others faced sold-out situations for their desired travel dates.
The press service of Uzbekistan Railways responded to inquiries about the ticket shortage, attributing it to the high demand from students. They acknowledged the unclear allocation of discounted tickets for the winter break and assured that more information on additional carriages and seat availability would be forthcoming.
This incident raises concerns about the timing of discount announcements, as similar issues were experienced during the previous winter break. With students eager to take advantage of such promotions, Uzbekistan Railways will need to address the ticket shortage effectively to ensure a smooth travel experience for all passengers.
