Suspension of Passage through Certain Gates for Protests in Southern Cyprus – BRTK Announcement
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that crossings at some border gates in Southern Cyprus will be stopped this weekend due to planned actions. This decision was made in accordance with information received from United Nations Peace Force officials regarding the upcoming “Isaak-Solomou commemoration event” at certain border gates.
The affected border gates include Metehan, Ledra Palas, Lokmacı, and Derinya. Entry and exit procedures will be suspended on the Greek side at these gates during specific times as part of the planned protests.
According to the ministry statement, the Greek protesters will organize actions at the Metehan, Ledra Palas, and Lokmacı Land Border Gates between 00:30-03:00 on August 10, 2024. Additionally, actions will take place at the Deryneia Land Border Gate at 21:00 on the same day, affecting entry and exit procedures on the Greek side.
Furthermore, on August 11, 2024, entry and exit procedures at the Deryneia Land Border Gate may also be impacted depending on protester actions between 07:30 and 12:30.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of this announcement to the people affected by these border gate closures. Please stay informed and plan accordingly for any disruptions in travel during this period.
