Tashkent Airport Security Foils Attempt to Smuggle Undeclared Firearm by Foreign National
A foreign national arriving from St. Petersburg was caught attempting to smuggle an air pistol through the customs checkpoint at Tashkent International Airport, according to the press service of the specialized customs complex “Tashkent-AERO.”
On August 21, 2024, at approximately 21:05, customs officers inspected a black travel bag belonging to the foreign citizen who had arrived on the St. Petersburg-Tashkent flight. Inside the luggage, they discovered 1 air pistol and 290 pellets intended for use with the air pistol, which were not declared as required by customs regulations and without the appropriate permits from law enforcement agencies.
An investigation into this incident is currently underway to determine the motives behind the smuggling attempt. Trading or possessing firearms without proper permits is illegal in Uzbekistan, and offenders can face serious consequences. Officials at Tashkent International Airport are working diligently to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety and security of all passengers and staff.
