Terror suspect caught unfurling extremist flag in Istanbul

Police in Istanbul have arrested a man who was carrying a flag bearing the picture of a terrorist ringleader. The suspect, identified as Davut K, was part of a group travelling to an Istanbul rally organized by the Green Left Party in Yenikapı. Police stopped him and discovered he had been previously registered for “membership in a terrorist organization and propaganda”. The suspect has been handed over to the Fatih Security Bureau Chief for further legal proceedings. The use of flags and banners that promote terrorism is illegal in Turkey, and authorities have taken a tough stance against those who breach the law in recent years.
