The European Transportation Development Path Project
The World Road Congress, organized by the International Road Federation (IRF) based in Geneva, commenced this year at the Istanbul Congress Center. The theme of this year’s congress is “Connecting to Strengthen Mobility: Roads as Enablers of a Sustainable Future for All.”
The opening speech of the congress was delivered by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, IRF President Dimitris Mandalozis, and European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Robert de Groot. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also sent a video message to the congress participants.
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted Turkey’s strategic location at the intersection of continents with ancient transportation routes like the Silk and Spice Roads. He emphasized Turkey’s role as a natural bridge connecting Asia, Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Uraloğlu discussed the Development Road Project, which aims to provide seamless transportation to every country in Europe through road and rail connections.
Uraloğlu also outlined Turkey’s efforts in improving its transportation infrastructure, including the construction of highways, railways, and mega projects like the Eurasia Tunnel and Marmaray. He mentioned the country’s focus on sustainable and efficient mobility solutions, aiming to reduce emissions and promote green transportation.
Furthermore, Minister Uraloğlu highlighted Turkey’s commitment to electric vehicles and renewable energy sources in the transportation sector. He discussed plans to increase the share of railway freight transportation and reduce the carbon footprint of road transportation through smart mobility solutions.
In conclusion, Uraloğlu emphasized Turkey’s investments in transportation and communication infrastructure over the past 22 years, totaling 277 billion dollars. He underlined the country’s achievements in aviation, road safety, and environmental sustainability, positioning Turkey as a key player in the global transportation sector.
