The Future Look of Bishkek’s Botanical Garden After Reconstruction

Reconstruction of Enver Gareev Botanical Garden in Bishkek Underway

The head of the Presidential Affairs Department, Kanybek Tumanbaev, recently shared a preview of the upcoming reconstruction of the Enver Gareev Botanical Garden in Bishkek on social media. This announcement comes as a response to the deteriorating condition of the garden, which has been neglected for many years.

Tumanbaev emphasized that on the orders of the head of state, Sadyr Japarov, efforts have been initiated to repair and restore the botanical garden. He highlighted that the area had become a haven for crime and wildlife, including jackals, due to the lack of maintenance and security measures.

The plans for the reconstruction include the removal of fences, installation of a lighting system, renovation of sidewalks, and creating a safe and comfortable environment for residents and visitors to enjoy leisurely walks and recreation in the garden.

The Enver Gareev Botanical Garden in Bishkek is renowned as one of the largest in Central Asia, boasting a diverse collection of plant species. In 2025, it received the status of a specially protected natural area. However, the garden’s current state is deplorable, with a damaged irrigation system, withering plants, and overgrown pathways.

With the commencement of this reconstruction project, there is hope that the Enver Gareev Botanical Garden will once again flourish as a botanical paradise for the people of Bishkek and visitors alike.
