Tragic Accident in Şişli: Person with Epileptic Seizure Falls off Motorcycle and Gets Trapped Under Car
A motorcycle accident occurred at Barbaros Boulevard, Zincirlikuyu metrobus stop entrance around 14:00, involving a pillion rider who had an epileptic seizure. The incident took place while the motorcycle, driven by Emrah Akman, was traveling from Levent towards Beşiktaş. The pillion rider, identified as Mehmet Şanverdi, fell from the motorcycle and narrowly avoided being run over by an İETT bus. Unfortunately, Şanverdi sustained injuries to his head upon hitting the ground.
Upon receiving notification, police and medical teams rushed to the scene. Şanverdi received first aid on-site before being transported by ambulance to Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital. Authorities are currently reviewing the bus’ camera footage and have taken the İETT driver to the police station to provide his statement.
In a statement, Emrah Akman described the incident, stating that his friend had an epileptic seizure behind him, leading to him fainting and falling off the motorcycle. The bus driver inadvertently ran over Şanverdi, but it remains unclear if he passed him or not. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events.
The IETT driver, who preferred not to disclose his name, clarified that the accident occurred when Şanverdi fell from the motorcycle while he was adjusting his position inside the vehicle. He emphasized that Şanverdi did not go under the car but fell from the motorcycle, hitting his head on the ground. Fortunately, Şanverdi’s condition is stable, and he was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the unpredictable nature of medical emergencies while on the road. Authorities are urging motorists to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents in the future.
