Turkey Wins International Narcotic Detector Dogs Championship with “Nobel”
Turkey Wins First Place in International Narcotic Detector Dogs Championship
The first-ever “International Narcotic Detector Dogs Championship” was held in Turkey, with 10 narcotic detector dogs from 10 countries competing. The competition was organized by the Customs Enforcement General Directorate of the Ministry of Commerce, and Turkey won the first place with the dog named “Nobel”.
The closing ceremony of the championship was held at the Ministry’s Dog Training Center in Akyurt, with the participation of embassy representatives. In the competition, Hungary became the second and Moldova came the third.
The awards were given by the ambassadors of the winning countries, and the Turkish team received the trophy from the Deputy Minister of Commerce Rıza Tuna Turagay. In his speech, Turagay stated that the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement is fighting drug smuggling with 224 trained dogs in 55 regions of the country and continues to work with 26 veterinarians.
Last year, the customs enforcement agency seized 14.2 tons of drugs and 58 tons of chemicals used in drug production. Turagay said that 60 percent of these seizures were carried out with dogs.
This championship not only highlights the importance of narcotic detector dogs but also the hard work of customs enforcement agencies in keeping the public safe from drug smuggling. Congratulations to Nobel and the Turkish team for their outstanding performance in this competition.
