Turkish Airlines Reports 31% Increase in Passenger Traffic in April 2023
Turkish Airlines (THY) has released its passenger and cargo traffic results for April 2023, and the numbers are quite impressive. According to the statement, THY carried a total of 6.5 million passengers in April 2023, reaching an occupancy rate of 79.8%.
The report further states that THY’s total number of passengers increased by 31% compared to the same period in 2022. The international load factor was 79.7%, while the domestic load factor was 80%. The number of international-to-international transfer passengers also increased by 32.3% to 2.4 million in April this year.
Furthermore, the kilometer traveled by the total number of seats supplied increased from 15.4 billion in April 2022 to 18.7 billion in April 2023, with an increase of 21.4%. However, the volume of cargo and mail transported decreased by 17.3%, from 146.4 thousand tons in April 2022 to 121 thousand tons in April 2023.
THY’s January-April 2023 air traffic results were also evaluated in the statement. The report states that the number of passengers carried increased by 33.6% to 23.6 million compared to the same period in 2022. The number of international-to-international transfer passengers increased by 58.4% to 9.3 million in the same period.
The total passenger load factor increased by 9.4% in the January-April period compared to the same period of 2022 and reached 80.8%. While the international load factor was 80.9%, the domestic load factor was 80.1%. Moreover, the kilometer traveled by the total number of seats supplied was 70.5 billion in the same period, a 29.9% increase from 2022. However, the total volume of cargo and mail carried decreased by 10.4% from 528.7 thousand tons to 473.7 thousand tons.
The number of aircraft in THY’s fleet has also increased to 414 by the end of April. This considerable increase in passenger traffic and aircraft fleet is a sign that Turkish Airlines is quickly returning to pre-pandemic levels.
