Turkish Students Achieve Success in International Mathematics and Biology Olympiads

Turkish students have brought pride to their country by achieving remarkable success in international competitions. In the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Chiba, Japan, Mehmet Can Baştemir won a gold medal, while Barış Koyuncu, Şevket Onur Yılmaz, Melek Güngör, Serdar Bozdağ, and Hakan Gündoğan secured silver medals for Turkey. These talented students represented their country among 623 students from 112 countries.

Furthermore, in the 34th International Biology Olympiad held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, Halil Eren Uyar, Erdem Yamalıoğlu, Tolga Tabanlı, and Kerem Aydın won bronze medals, contributing to Turkey’s success in the competition where 320 students from 80 countries participated.

The Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, expressed his congratulations to the students for their outstanding accomplishments. He highlighted that Turkish students won a historic 1 gold and 5 silver medals in the International Mathematics Olympiad, as well as 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in the International Biology Olympiad.

Minister Kacır emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “Our students achieved a historical success in the International Mathematics Olympiad and brought our country to the 8th place among 112 countries. Thus, we achieved the second-best success in our history in mathematics. Our students, who won 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in the 34th International Biology Olympiad, have made us proud.”

As Turkey continues to thrive on the international stage, Minister Kacır expressed hope for the future, saying, “As a Turkey that has a voice in the international arena thanks to our young people who produce and develop technology and science, we look to our future with even more hope.”
