
Turkmenistan Joins Global Mountain Dialogue Conference in Bishkek

Bishkek Hosts Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development
On April 24-25, 2025, Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, is set to host the international conference titled "Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development: Towards the Bishkek+25 Summit." This significant forum aims to address critical issues regarding mountain ecosystems and sustainable development.
The conference is being attended by a delegation from Turkmenistan, led by the Minister of Environmental Protection, Ch. Babaniyazov. Notable attendees also include President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic and representatives from various countries and international organizations.
In his keynote address, Minister Babaniyazov underscored the vital importance of international cooperation in conserving mountain ecosystems, safeguarding biodiversity, and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change. He highlighted ongoing efforts under the guidance of the President of Turkmenistan to expand the network of protected natural areas, particularly through initiatives aimed at establishing new reserves within the Uly and Kichi Balkan mountain ranges.
A key focus of the dialogue is the cooperation on transboundary water management. The minister emphasized collaborative efforts with Uzbekistan in preparing a transnational nomination dossier for the inclusion of the Koytendag ecosystem complex in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List.
In addition to the main conference proceedings, Minister Babaniyazov held a productive meeting with Kyrgyz Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Mr. M. Mashiev, to discuss further collaborations in environmental protection.
This conference represents a significant step forward in fostering regional cooperation and engaging in meaningful dialogue to protect the mountain environments that are crucial for sustainable development.
