Turkmenistan’s Training Centre Poised for WCO Regional Status
Brussels, Belgium – The Training Centre under the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan has taken significant strides towards becoming a Regional Training Centre of the World Customs Organization (WCO). At a recent conference held at the WCO Headquarters, Turkmenistan’s proposal received unanimous backing from participants from the European Region.
A delegation from the State Customs Service represented Turkmenistan at the conference, where they delivered a comprehensive presentation showcasing the Centre’s modern infrastructure, technical capabilities, and educational programs. These features align with international standards and utilize advanced digital platforms to enhance customs training.
The proposal is bolstered by a strategic development plan formulated in collaboration with the WCO, which has already received official endorsement from the European Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB). The Centre has a proven track record of conducting regional training sessions, demonstrating its readiness to fulfill the responsibilities of a WCO Regional Training Centre.
During the presentation, the Turkmen delegation underscored that obtaining this recognition would significantly enhance regional collaboration and elevate the training quality not only in Turkmenistan but across neighboring countries as well. Participants were engaged with a video presentation that highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to modernizing its customs system, featuring showcases of advanced classrooms, digital platforms, and collaborative training events.
Post-presentation, representatives from other countries voiced unanimous support for Turkmenistan’s initiative, signaling strong trust in its commitment to customs education.
Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, expressed gratitude to all attendees for their supportive engagement. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s strategic role as a conduit between Asia and Europe and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with regional recognition. The Ambassador expressed confidence that the specialists trained at the Centre would significantly contribute to international trade and logistics between the two continents.
The Conference of Heads of Customs Services of the WCO European Region marks a pivotal moment for the official recognition of Turkmenistan’s Training Centre. The subsequent phase will involve signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the WCO and the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, anticipated during the upcoming WCO Council session in June.
