Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Considers Partnership with USAID

and USAID Discuss Prospects for Cooperation on Regional and National Projects

Turkmenistan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vepa Khadzhiev, and Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Asian Bureau of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Anjali Kaur, met on Thursday to discuss prospects for further cooperation on regional and national projects. Kaur was on a working visit to Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the long-term cooperation between Turkmenistan and USAID, with a number of joint projects in areas such as trade and economic development, education, healthcare, public administration, the legislative and legal sphere, the social sector, and the agro-industrial complex. The diplomats also deliberated on steps to reduce methane emissions, with a shared outlook on promoting cooperation in the development of low-carbon energy and digitalization.

Other topics discussed during the meeting were advisory and technical support from USAID regarding Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Overall, the discussions were productive and paved the way for future cooperation between the two nations.
