Ukraine Offensive Prompts Prime Minister to Call Emergency Defense Council Meeting at Dawn
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called an emergency meeting of the Defense Council in light of intensified fighting in the Ukraine war. The meeting, which took place at dawn on Thursday, was attended by Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Interior Minister Sándor Pintér, and other senior officials. Orbán stressed the importance of a ceasefire and peace, but added that Hungary’s security remains the government’s top priority. Press reports suggest that Ukrainian forces launched assaults on three fronts earlier this week, leading to speculation that a counter-offensive is underway. Russia claims that Ukraine has launched a major new offensive in the southern Zaporizhzhia region.
