Umurlu Customs Gate opens new entry and exit point to Iraq
The Umurlu Customs Gate has been opened in the Derecik district of Hakkari, a province in Turkey bordering Iraq. The opening ceremony was attended by Hakkari Governor and Deputy Mayor İdris Akbıyık, AK Party Hakkari Deputy Husret Dinç, Derecik District Governor Abdulkadir Işık, Mayor Ekrem Çetinkaya, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Coşkun Sel, Provincial Police Chief, Salavat Mete Pınar, representatives of NGOs, Erbil Turkish Consul General Memet Mevlüt Yakut, Erbil Governor Omid Xosnav, and Iraqi Regional Government Border Officer Mustafa Barzani, and many others. The customs gate is expected to contribute to both Northern Iraq and Turkey. In his speech, Governor Akbıyık expressed his happiness and said that the center of Hakkari will make great commercial and cultural contributions to Şemdinli and Yüksekova. He also emphasized that the opening of the customs gate is a historical moment not only for Hakkari, but also for Mergesor, Erbil, Mosul, and Baghdad. The ceremony ended with a dance by the Governor and attendees.
