UN Condemns Israel’s Detention of Kemal Advan Hospital Director Abu Safiyye
The United Nations Deputy Spokesperson, Florencia Soto Nino, recently addressed the press regarding the dire situation in Gaza following the recent attacks. Nino highlighted the devastating impact of the attacks on vital infrastructure such as health facilities and access to humanitarian aid, emphasizing the critical need for survival resources for the people of Gaza.
Nino specifically mentioned the closure of Kemal Advan Hospital, which has rendered medical care inaccessible to the patients and staff currently inside. Despite efforts to evacuate patients from the hospital, four individuals were reportedly detained by Israel, including the hospital director, Husam Abu Safiyye.
In response to questions about the detention of Abu Safiyye, Nino condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure and civilians, particularly hospitals, emphasizing the importance of protecting innocent civilians in conflict zones. The UN is actively working to secure the release of Abu Safiyye and ensure the safety of all those in need.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Gaza released a statement confirming the detention of Dr. Husam Abu Safiyye and several other medical personnel by Israeli forces for investigation purposes.
