UN Condemns Israel’s Ongoing Political Assassinations

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the Israeli Parliament’s approval of a draft law that would bring an end to the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the country. In a written statement, Guterres highlighted that the implementation of this law would prevent UNRWA, authorized by the UN General Assembly, from carrying out its responsibilities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
The Palestinian Presidential Spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rudeyne, condemned the approval of the bill, stating that without the support of the United States, Israel would not dare to challenge international legitimacy. He emphasized that the bill goes against international law and aims to eliminate the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Abu Rudeyne also criticized the Israeli Parliament for turning into a fascist state by passing the bill.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the bill, stating that it is a tool used by the occupier in its hostility towards the Palestinian people. They emphasized that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, and that the bill poses a significant threat to the work of UNRWA in the region.
Various Palestinian officials, including Fatah Movement Spokesperson Abdulfettah Devle and Hamas Political Bureau Member Osama al-Hamdan, criticized Israel for approving the bill, calling it a violation of international norms and laws. They called on the international community to take immediate action to address the situation and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
Jordan also condemned the approval of the bill, describing it as part of Israel’s political assassination spree against UNRWA. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the bill is a clear violation of international law and Israel’s obligations as an occupying power.
The tension between Israel and the UN continues to escalate, with the Israeli administration launching a smear campaign against UNRWA and accusing its employees of participating in attacks on Gaza. Despite these challenges, UNRWA plays a crucial role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in various regions, including health, education, and social services.
