UNDP and British Embassy in Turkmenistan Hold Eighth Climate Group Meeting
On February 5th, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the British Embassy in Turkmenistan came together to co-host the eighth Coordination Meeting of the Development Partners Climate Group at the UN Building in Ashgabat. The main objective of the meeting was to facilitate and expedite Turkmenistan’s efforts in fulfilling its international obligations as per the Paris Agreement.
The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, is a landmark global treaty signed by almost all countries with the aim of combating climate change and limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius. Turkmenistan, like many other nations, is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development practices in line with the goals outlined in the agreement.
During the meeting, representatives from various development agencies, government ministries, and international organizations discussed strategies and initiatives to support Turkmenistan in achieving its climate goals. This included sharing best practices, providing technical assistance, and exploring potential funding opportunities for climate-related projects.
By collaborating and coordinating their efforts, the Development Partners Climate Group hopes to assist Turkmenistan in making significant progress towards a low-carbon, resilient future. With a collective commitment to addressing climate change, all parties involved are working towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Turkmenistan.
