US Public Support for Israel Hits 25-Year Low

A recent survey conducted by the Gallup research company revealed some interesting trends in American public opinion towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to the survey of 1004 people between February 3-16, 46 percent of Americans supported Israel, marking the lowest level of support in the last 25 years.

During the survey, which coincided with a ceasefire and captive exchange between Israel and Hamas, the proportion of sympathizers of the Palestinians increased by 6 points to 33 percent compared to last year, reaching the highest level since 2001. Additionally, the survey found that 40 percent of Americans approved of former President Trump’s policies towards Palestine and Israel.

The survey also highlighted a partisan divide in opinions, with 83 percent of Republicans and 33 percent of Democrats expressing a positive opinion about Israel. Meanwhile, 45 percent of Democrats reported a positive opinion on Palestine.

One of the most notable findings of the survey was that a majority of Americans support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. 55 percent of respondents supported the two-state solution, while 31 percent opposed it. 14 percent of participants did not express any opinion on the issue.

In terms of political affiliation, 76 percent of Democrats, 53 percent of independents, and 41 percent of Republicans expressed support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. These findings shed light on the shifting attitudes and opinions within the American public regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
