Uzbekistan and ILO Join Forces in Collaborative Program for 2026-2030

Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo Discuss Cooperation

On July 9, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), who was on an official visit to the country. The meeting focused on discussions to further enhance cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO.

During the meeting, the ILO Director-General expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended Uzbekistan for its efforts in ensuring workers’ rights, job creation, and adherence to international conventions. He described his visit as a demonstration of support for the effective reforms being implemented under President Mirziyoyev’s leadership.

It was emphasized that the ILO recognizes Uzbekistan’s achievements as a successful model for international study and application. Uzbekistan’s election to the ILO Administrative Council in June 2024 was highlighted as a testament to this recognition.

The report stated that the cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO has significantly advanced in recent years. With the support of the organization, more than 40 labor-related regulatory documents have been adopted in Uzbekistan, and 22 international conventions have been ratified. The importance of joint efforts to promote social justice principles, including through the ‘Global Coalition for Social Justice,’ was also acknowledged.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to develop and adopt a new country program for the period of 2026−2030, indicating a commitment to further strengthen the partnership between Uzbekistan and the ILO.
