Uzbekistan Establishes Commission for Poverty Reduction
A new commission led by the Deputy Prime Minister has been established in Uzbekistan to tackle poverty reduction issues.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a video conference where the decision was made to form this commission. The Director of the Social Protection Agency will also play a key role as the deputy head of the commission. Local governors will chair regional and district commissions.
The commission will conduct weekly reviews in one district from each region, evaluating the performance of assigned leaders and promptly addressing any issues raised on the ground. Progress on poverty reduction plans will be reported to the President monthly.
In an effort to approach poverty reduction scientifically, nine economic research centers and universities will be engaged in finding solutions.
During the meeting, officials presented their reports and action plans on the discussed matters. This initiative signals a strong commitment from the government to address poverty and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
