Uzbekistan Joins International Code for the Protection of Tourists, Strengthens Commitment to Global Tourism Standards
Uzbekistan has taken a significant step in ensuring the protection of tourists by officially joining the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, developed by the UN Tourism. This move reaffirms Uzbekistan’s dedication to upholding global tourism standards and safeguarding the rights of travelers.
This milestone not only solidifies Uzbekistan’s position as a growing tourism hub but also demonstrates its continuous expansion and increasing international recognition in recent years.
Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of the International Code for the Protection of Tourists as a crucial system to rebuild trust in travel post the COVID-19 pandemic. By adhering to this code, Uzbekistan aims to establish a safer and more dependable travel environment for all tourists.
The code, developed by UN Tourism, comprises principles and recommendations aimed at ensuring the safety, rights, and interests of tourists while also promoting sustainable tourism development.
Through the adoption of this document, Uzbekistan reaffirms its commitment to implementing best practices in the hospitality sector and creating favorable conditions for foreign visitors.
In terms of tourist arrivals, Uzbekistan experienced a significant increase in 2024, with a total of 8.2 million foreign tourists visiting the country. This number includes an equal distribution of 4.1 million men (50.2%) and 4.1 million women (49.8%). A comparison to the previous year shows an increase from 6.6 million foreign tourists in 2023.
The trend of rising tourist numbers has been consistent throughout the year, with over 2.8 million foreign visitors arriving in Uzbekistan in the first five months of 2024, including a notable 10,600 from the United States. By June, this number surpassed 3.5 million, and by October 1, the total had reached an impressive 5.7 million.
Uzbekistan’s commitment to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists is a clear indication of its dedication to enhancing the tourism sector and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for travelers from around the world.
