Uzbekistan’s Car Production Sees 4.1% Increase in Eight Months
Automobile Production in Uzbekistan Sees Growth Despite Setbacks
The latest data from the Statistics Agency reveals that automobile production in Uzbekistan has seen a 4.1% increase, reaching 242,876 units in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period last year. While the overall growth is positive, there have been some setbacks in the industry, particularly for Lada cars.
After briefly resuming production in July, Lada cars have once again come to a halt, with only six units manufactured. This is in stark contrast to the dominance of UzAuto Motors in the market, responsible for over 90% of the country’s total automobile production. The Chevrolet Cobalt leads the pack with over 102,000 units produced between January and August, showing a 56% increase from last year, with approximately 17,000 units manufactured in August alone.
Following the Cobalt, the Damas minivan and Chevrolet Tracker have also shown significant production figures, with 59,500 and 27,400 units produced, respectively. Other notable models include the Chevrolet Onix and Lacetti-Gentra sedan, each showing varying production trends.
Among foreign manufacturers, Chery saw a 19.2% drop in production, while Kia and Haval recorded production increases. However, Lada production remains stalled due to international sanctions pressure on the company’s foreign partners, impacting projects in both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. AvtoVAZ CEO Maxim Sokolov remains hopeful that production will resume once the situation stabilizes.
Despite challenges faced by some manufacturers, the overall growth in automobile production in Uzbekistan signals a positive trend for the industry, with UzAuto Motors leading the way in driving the country’s automotive sector forward.
