Warning: Avoid Using ‘Oil Hydrocarmon’ found in Karaman’s Water Supply!

Provincial Health Directorate Warns Against Hydrocarbon Contamination in Water Supply

Following numerous complaints and reports of a persistent smell in the water supply, the Provincial Health Directorate in Karaman has issued a warning urging residents not to drink the water due to the presence of “oil hydrocarbons.” The source of the contamination has yet to be determined, and the Karaman Municipality has not released a statement addressing the issue.

Local residents have expressed concerns about the quality of the water, with many opting to avoid drinking it altogether. Mustafa Göksu, a 62-year-old resident, noted the unusual smell in the fountain water and stated that he avoids drinking it as a precaution. Similarly, 63-year-old Hüseyin Taşlı emphasized the need for a prompt resolution to the problem, as fountain water is commonly used in households.

In response to the situation, the Provincial Health Directorate conducted tests on samples taken from the water supply network and confirmed the presence of “oil hydrocarbons.” The results were sent to the Ankara National Public Health Reference Laboratory for further analysis, which identified the specific compounds responsible for the contamination.

As a precautionary measure, residents are advised not to use the water for drinking or any general cleaning purposes until the issue is resolved. The Provincial Health Directorate is working to address the contamination and ensure the safety of the water supply for the residents of Karaman.
