Trump Administration Considers Restoring Aid to Ukraine Amid Peace Talks
President Donald Trump is contemplating the possibility of restoring aid to Ukraine as part of ongoing peace talks and confidence-building measures, according to White House national security adviser Mike Waltz. This news comes after Trump recently halted military aid to Ukraine in an effort to shift US policy towards a more conciliatory stance with Russia.
On Tuesday night, Trump revealed that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressing willingness to engage in negotiations. Waltz described this letter as a “good, positive first step” and mentioned that discussions were underway to determine the date, location, and negotiating team for these peace talks aimed at ending the war.
“We’re already talking about confidence-building measures that we’ll then take to the Russians and test that side,” Waltz stated in an interview with the “Fox & Friends” program. However, specifics about these measures were not disclosed.
In addition to the peace talks, Trump mentioned that Ukraine was prepared to sign a minerals deal with the US, which is seen as crucial in securing continued US support for Ukraine’s defense. As the situation continues to develop, the international community will be closely monitoring the progress of these negotiations and the potential implications for Ukraine and its relations with both the US and Russia.
