Zelenskiy barred from speaking at Eurovision – Breaking Update
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has been banned from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest via video conference. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the contest, rejected Zelenskiy’s request, stating that his appearance would “politicize the contest” and emphasizing that political statements are prohibited during performances. Zelenskiy has been participating in international meetings through video conferences since Russia began attacking Ukraine. His request was rejected in the final stages of the competition, which is set to be held in Liverpool, England due to ongoing tensions with Russia. Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest last year. The Office of the President of Ukraine stated that Zelenskiy did not apply to make a speech and that Ukrainian presidency officials did not contact Eurovision organizers.
