1.33 Million People Pass Through Erenhot Port

Erenhot, the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, has seen a significant increase in inbound and outbound travelers in the first 11 months of the year. According to reports, the port handled nearly 1.33 million travelers during this period, with a peak of over 8,870 people in a single day.
In addition to the influx of travelers, the land port also managed some 169,000 vehicles passing through, indicating a high level of activity and trade between the two countries. The Erenhot port is currently operating 24 hours a day to accommodate the growing demand for cross-border transportation.
One significant development is the resumption of customs clearance services for passenger traffic at the Erenhot highway port, which is situated on the border of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China. This development occurred on 8 January and was followed by the resumption of China-Mongolia international passenger train services on 30 August.
The increase in travel and trade activity between China and Mongolia is reflective of the growing economic ties between the two countries. Official data shows that bilateral trade between the two nations reached 12.2 billion U.S. dollars in value in 2022, marking a 34 percent increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the trade volume saw a substantial 62.6 percent year-on-year increase in the first six months of 2023, indicating a sustained and robust growth momentum in bilateral trade.
Overall, the developments at the Erenhot land port and the significant increase in travel and trade between China and Mongolia demonstrate the strengthening of economic and transportation ties between the two neighboring nations.
