1 Cougar Helicopter Fights Fire with 15 Tons of Water

The Security Forces Command (GKK) reported that a fire that erupted in the Ağlılar and Altınova Region was successfully contained with the help of a Cougar helicopter equipped with fire suppression equipment. The Cougar aircraft managed to drop a total of 15 tons of water onto the fire area, with each drop weighing 1.5 tons.

In addition to the aerial firefighting efforts, the GKK also conducted aerial reconnaissance using a UAV from the KTBK Command, and an MI-8 firefighting helicopter from the Büyükeceli/Mersin region of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry provided air support.

A written statement released by the GKK highlighted the coordination of various firefighting vehicles and personnel involved in the extinguishing efforts. The fire area was closed off to traffic by the General Directorate of Police, with the 14th Armoured Brigade Commander overseeing the coordination as the “Fire Scene Coordinator.”

Multiple firefighting vehicles from the Fire Department, Forestry Department, Civil Defense Organization, 28th Mechanized Infantry Division Command, 14th Armored Brigade Command, and GKK were deployed to combat the fire. The KTBK Commander, Security Forces Commander, and TRNC Minister of Agriculture and Forestry also visited the region to establish a fire extinguishing coordination center for effective use of resources.

Thanks to the joint efforts of all agencies involved, including the Cougar helicopter and MI-8 firefighting helicopter, the fire in the area was successfully extinguished. Currently, cooling efforts are ongoing to ensure the fire does not reignite.
