1 Suspect Arrested in Pasta Factory Explosion Case
The procedures for the 6 suspects, including factory owners and managers, who were detained in connection with the investigation led by the Hendek Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office have been finalized at the prosecutor’s office.
Out of the 6 suspects, three were taken to the criminal judgeship of peace on duty with a request for arrest, while the other three were put under judicial control. Factory manager VU was among those who were arrested, while the remaining 5 suspects, including the factory owners, were released on probation.
In the wake of the investigation, a total of 7 suspects, including factory owners and managers, were called in to provide statements by the Hendek Public Prosecutor’s Office. Following interrogations and other legal procedures, 6 of the suspects were arrested, while one was released.
After the explosion and subsequent fire at a pasta factory in the Hendek district on September 15, 30 people sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals in Hendek, Akyazı, Düzce, and Kocaeli by medical teams. Deputy Minister of Health Halim Özçevik reported that among the injured were one child and 3 firefighters, with 2 individuals requiring intubation. Tragically, during the cooling efforts, the lifeless body of one worker, Mesut Şimay (27), was discovered.
The investigation into the incident continues as authorities work to determine the cause of the explosion and hold those responsible accountable for the tragic event.
