109th anniversary of the Battle of Çanakkale
The 109th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory was celebrated with great enthusiasm as the Turkish nation remembered the historic event that took place on March 18, 1915. The victory at Çanakkale proved to the world the “impassability” of the region, solidifying its place in history.
The celebrations for the 18 March Martyrs’ Memorial Day and the anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory took place on the Historical Gallipoli Peninsula. The theme for this year’s events was ‘Glory, Honor, History is Ours, Çanakkale is Ours’. A ceremony was held at the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Monument as part of the activities organized by the Gallipoli Historical Area Directorate.
The Gallipoli Wars, which marked a turning point in Turkish history, began with a naval battle in the Dardanelles on February 19, 1915. The conflict continued on land on the Seddülbahir, Arıburnu, and Anafartalar fronts. After 325 days of fighting, the Turkish army emerged victorious on January 9, 1916.
The naval victory at Çanakkale on March 18, 1915, was a crucial moment for the future of Turkey. It demonstrated the strength and determination of the Turkish forces and showcased the strategic importance of the region.
This year’s celebrations included a parade in the Dardanelles featuring the Navy’s floating elements and a demonstration flight by SOLOTURK. Final rehearsals for the ceremonies were completed in preparation for the events.
