110 Arrested in Police Operation Across 29 Provinces
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has revealed that a total of 110 suspects were apprehended in the “Sibergöz-49” operations conducted in 29 provinces. These suspects were found to have a transaction volume of 3 billion 750 million Turkish liras in their accounts.
The operations, which took place in various provinces such as Kahramanmaraş, Afyonkarahisar, Ankara, Samsun, Sakarya, and Diyarbakır, targeted individuals involved in crimes such as violation of Law No. 7258 on the Organization of Betting and Games of Chance in Football and Other Sports Competitions, aggravated fraud through the use of information systems, aggravated theft, and online child obscenity and harassment.
Among the apprehended suspects, 15 individuals were found in Ankara, Istanbul, Malatya, Balıkesir, and Antalya. These suspects were accused of making unjust gains by promoting “Guarantee Betting Coupons” on social media and luring citizens to fake betting websites. Additionally, six suspects were caught in Mersin, Konya, and Artvin for gaining unlawful income through deceptive schemes related to forex trading.
Furthermore, 56 suspects were arrested in Sakarya, Düzce, Istanbul, Antalya, Kırklareli, Izmir, and Samsun for obtaining unauthorized access to others’ financial accounts and using them for illicit activities on the illegal betting site “Grandpashabet.” The total transaction volume linked to these suspects was a staggering 3 billion 750 million Turkish liras.
In a separate operation conducted in various provinces such as Adana, Gaziantep, and Istanbul, 31 suspects were apprehended for the crime of online child obscenity and harassment. These individuals were reportedly selling explicit images of children for monetary gain via social media applications.
The successful crackdown on these criminal activities highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrimes and uphold the laws governing online activities. Minister Yerlikaya’s announcement serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure digital environment for all Turkish citizens.
