12th Cartoon Humor Festival and Cartoon Competition: Jury Introduction Meeting

12th International Olive Humor Festival and International Cartoon Contest announces jury presentation
The 12th International Olive Humor Festival and International Cartoon Contest, organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Kyrenia and the Cyprus Turkish Cartoonists Association, held its jury presentation at the Grand Pasha Hotel. During the event, Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul announced a change in this year’s festival and competition.
The grand prize of the Olive Humor Festival and Cartoon Contest will be given in memory of the Champion Angels Team, who tragically lost their lives in an earthquake disaster in Turkey. This decision aims to honor their memory and create a meaningful connection between the event and important social causes.
A total of 134 artists from 39 countries participated in the competition, submitting 380 works. The jury members, who will evaluate these submissions, were wished success by Mayor Şenkul. The jury includes prominent figures such as Hüseyin Çakmak, a member of the Organizing Committee and an esteemed member of the Cartoon Humor Festival and Cartoon Contest.
Çakmak emphasized the significance of the competition within the cartoon community and highlighted its role in promoting the city of Kyrenia and the rich culture of Cyprus to the world. Over the past 12 years, this event has gained recognition in many parts of the world through various publications and albums, and has successfully hosted approximately 70 cartoonists in Kyrenia.
The International Olive Humor Festival and International Cartoon Competition jury consists of respected individuals from both TRNC and other countries, including Iran, Bulgaria, and Turkey. During the meeting, jury members emphasized the importance of institutionalizing the competition and ensuring its continuity, reflecting the long-term vision of the event.
Furthermore, at the introductory meeting, an award was presented to Iranian artist Elahe Khoraman, who secured the second place in 2020 but was unable to receive her award due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Mayor of Kyrenia, Murat Şenkul, personally handed the award to the talented artist.
The winners of the 12th International Cartoon Contest will be honored and presented with their awards at the 22nd Olive Festival, scheduled to take place in October. This prestigious event promises to showcase the diverse talents of cartoonists from around the world and celebrate the beauty of the olive, while also providing a platform for social awareness and remembrance.
