130 Rare Ikarus Buses Await Enthusiasts in Budapest

The 6th Ferihegy Ikarus Meeting is set to showcase 130 buses, including some rare oldtime models, at the Aeropark on October 5 and 6. Organized by Aeropark, Volánbusz, BKV, the Hungarian Museum of Science, Technology, and Transport, and their partners, the event will feature a fun bus ride, a parade, a rolling exhibition, and a special engine launch to honor one of Hungary’s most renowned brands.

Ikarus, a globally recognized brand from Hungary, was a dominant player in the bus industry during the 1970s and 1980s. The event will highlight the most significant buses in Hungarian vehicle production and transport history, including the iconic Ikarus models that were once a common sight at Ferihegy Airport and in public transport systems.

Among the highlights of the event will be the Ikarus 55, a popular long-distance and tourist bus, as well as the double-decker “Bikarusz,” restored by Volánbusz by combining two buses from the late 1960s. Visitors will also get to see the first model, the Ikarus 30, the trailer model Ikarus 60, the first articulated model, right-hand drive buses, and electric buses.

A parade featuring around 80 buses will take place on Sunday, offering a unique photo opportunity along the Vecsés-Ecser link road near Budapest. The program will be open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days, with organizers recommending the use of public transport to reach the Aeropark.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to witness the legacy of Ikarus and Hungarian transport history!
