14 Detained in Ankara as part of FETO Investigation
Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Orders Arrests of FETÖ-Linked Suspects
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the detention of 14 suspects who are believed to have ties with the secret services of FETÖ, the organization responsible for the failed coup attempt in Turkey in 2016. The suspects had allegedly been targeting the General Command of the Land Forces and the Gendarmerie, with some reportedly nesting in the military organization itself.
The suspects, five of whom were on active duty with the rank of non-commissioned officer, were caught communicating and exchanging messages with the civil responsible using prepaid landlines in public workplaces such as kiosks, grocery stores, and markets in various districts across Ankara.
The Anti-Terrorism Branch of the Ankara Police Department has launched simultaneous operations in five provinces to arrest the suspects. The proceedings for the arrest of the FETÖ-linked suspects are still ongoing.
FETÖ, the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization, is known for its extensive infiltration into the Turkish military and bureaucracy. The group was responsible for the failed coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016, which resulted in 251 deaths and thousands of injuries. Turkey designated FETÖ a terrorist organization and launched mass investigations and legal proceedings against its members and affiliates.
