14th Brașov Hungarian Days Showcase Diverse Cultural Offerings

The 14th Brașov (Brassó, Romania) Hungarian Days, the largest Hungarian cultural festival in southern Transylvania, is set to take place from September 15 to 22. The festivities will commence with a church service and an opening gala showcasing over 50 programs, including a performance by the Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra.

One of the festival’s highlights will be the gala performance “Our Heritage in Dance – 75 Years of the Búzavirág Folk Dance Ensemble” featuring István Pál and his band. Additionally, on September 21, the Gypsy Symphony Orchestra will be putting on a show. Other key performances to look out for include the rock band Hooligans on September 20 and singer Szandi with Abrakazabra on September 22.

Furthermore, a scientific conference and round-table discussion titled “Andreanum – 800 Years of Autonomy for the Transylvanian Saxons” will be held on September 22, focusing on Andrew II of Hungary’s privileges. The festival will also include discussions on Hungarian-Turkish relations, a literary panel on modern literature, and a presentation of Gábor Vida’s work.

In addition to the performances and discussions, attendees can enjoy various activities such as an exhibition by artist Levente Csutak, film screenings, a craft and farmers’ fair, wine tasting, folk music concerts, children’s dance, sightseeing, and a veteran and retro car show. The festival will also showcase local talent with performances by young bands at Lajos Áprily High School. The closing day will feature a memorial service and a parade of folk dance groups, concluding with the 17th “In Memoriam István Reiff Barcovian Folk Dance Meeting.”
