16 Battery-Powered and 25 Bicycle Type Chairs Distributed to Disabled People in TRNC and Turkey
16 battery-powered wheelchairs and 25 bicycle-type wheelchairs have recently been distributed to disabled individuals by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and various entities and authorities in the Republic of Turkey. This generous contribution was made possible through the involvement of a businessman based in Belgium. The distribution of these aid was organized with the help of the Akşehir District Governorate, the Umut Disabled People Social Assistance and Solidarity Association, and the Turkey’s Nicosia Embassy in Labor and Social Affairs.
A press conference was hosted at Turkey’s Nicosia Embassy with the presence of Prime Minister Ünal Üstel. During the conference, Prime Minister Üstel expressed his delight at the successful implementation of this project, emphasizing that this initiative will bring happiness to many disabled individuals in the country.
Üstel also highlighted the government’s dedication to increasing the participation of disabled people in social life and working towards implementing comprehensive legal regulations to support their employment. He also disclosed that new employment opportunities for disabled individuals are expected to materialize in 2024.
Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Metin Feyzioğlu, also extended his gratitude to all those involved in facilitating the distribution of the wheelchairs, emphasizing the importance of the collaboration between Turkey and TRNC. Additionally, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, described the wheelchair donation as a significant and meaningful contribution that addresses a crucial need in the community.
The influential involvement of businessman Mehmet Baydondu, who generously donated 80 battery-powered wheelchairs to the Umut Disabled People Social Assistance and Solidarity Association, is a testament to the impactful difference that individuals can make in the lives of others. Association President, Dr. Bülent Erdem, expressed his pride in being part of such a thoughtful initiative, emphasizing the potential for this to mark the beginning of greater support for disabled individuals in the region.
