“16 Cabinet Members Elected as MPs”
Turkish Cabinet Members Elected as Deputies in New Parliamentary Term
Several cabinet members in Turkey have been elected to the Parliament in the new legislative term. The 28th legislative term includes 16 electoral districts, 15 of which are metropolitan, and the cabinet members were nominated as first-line candidates in those districts.
Vice President Fuat Oktay will represent Ankara 3rd Region, while Bekir Bozdağ, Minister of Justice, will represent Şanlıurfa. Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık Osmaniye, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Bilgin Ankara 2nd Region and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum Istanbul 1st Region will also take their places in the parliament.
Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, will represent Antalya and Eskişehir, respectively. Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu will represent Izmir 1st Region, while Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati will represent Mersin.
Other cabinet members who have been elected to represent districts include Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu for Istanbul 2nd Region, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer for Ordu, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar for Kayseri, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank for Bursa 2nd Region, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Vahit Kirişci for Kahramanmaraş, Trade Minister Mehmet Muş for Samsun and Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu for Trabzon.
Finally, Abdulhamit Gul has been elected to represent Gaziantep and Faruk Celik will represent Artvin.
With these cabinet members joining the Parliament, Turkey is expected to see some changes in its legislative approach.
