The 17th International Freshwater Carob and Folk Dance Festival has officially kicked off in Tatlısu.
The festival commenced with a captivating performance by the Tatlısu Municipality Folk Dance Group, followed by an opening speech from Mayor Hayri Orçan. Orçan highlighted the undervalued status of the carob product in recent years and the challenges faced by carob producers. He emphasized the importance of the festival as a platform for producers to address their concerns.
Orçan also shared that efforts are being made to address issues related to the pricing of carob on the world stock exchange, ensuring that producers are not disadvantaged. Additionally, he mentioned the protection of the multi-purpose use of carob, particularly in the health sector, and the conversion of an idle molasses production facility for cooperative use by the municipality.
Furthermore, festivals like this not only promote and sell products but also serve as a means to celebrate diverse cultures and traditions. Democrat Party Deputy Serhat Akpınar reiterated the party’s commitment to supporting producers and overcoming challenges in exporting carob products despite international embargoes.
The festival, scheduled to run until September 8, will feature a variety of cultural, artistic, and sporting events, as well as engaging activities and concerts. Attendees can look forward to a vibrant celebration of carob and folk dance, intertwined with a display of unity and cultural exchange.
