Kazakhstan’s Population Sees 20% Growth Since 2009 Census
The population of Kazakhstan has experienced a significant increase of 20% since the last census conducted in 2009, reaching a total of 19,186,015 people as of September 1, 2021. This information was reported by the Bureau of National Statistics on October 30.
Among the various regions, three have surpassed a population of two million people. These regions are the Almaty Region with 2,146,576 residents, the Turkistan Region with 2,054,021 residents, and the city of Almaty itself, which has a population of 2,030,285.
Furthermore, the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, has experienced a doubling in its population, growing from 613,000 to 1,234,000 people.
The 2021 census also reveals an increase in the share of urban residents, now accounting for 61.2% of the total population, marking a 5% increase compared to the figures from the previous census in 2009.
In terms of gender distribution, the total number of women slightly surpasses that of men, with 1,000 women for every 946 men. Additionally, the average age of Kazakhstan’s citizens has risen from 31 to 32 years.
The census data also indicates that the population of children aged 0 to 15 has increased to 29.4%, totaling 5.6 million individuals.
Remarkably, Kazakhstan is home to over 200 adults aged over 101 years old, demonstrating the longevity of its population.
The country holds a population census every ten years, and the data collected from it is highly comprehensive. It includes valuable information about various aspects of the population, such as migration patterns, income levels, employment rates, marital statuses, birth rates, language proficiency, and religious beliefs.
