2024 Budapest Contemporary Art Fair: Artists and Galleries Revealed

The organisers of the Budapest Contemporary Art Fair (BCT) have recently announced the lineup of renowned European galleries that will be participating in this year’s event. Scheduled to take place at the Bálna (Whale) from 26-29 September, the fair will feature 42 works by 21 artists from 12 galleries, with a total value of around €1 million.
In an effort to showcase the best of Hungarian contemporary art on an international platform, the BCT will also include exhibitions from well-known Hungarian galleries alongside works from highly esteemed foreign invitees. Curated by artist Márton Nemes, who represented Hungary at the Venice Biennale this year, the international stand will feature galleries from Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Serbia, and Slovakia.
Among the highlights of the international exhibition is Wim Delvoye’s “Caterpillar” (2004), a unique piece that combines a tracked machine with the intricacies of a Gothic cathedral. Amélie Bertrand’s latest work, “I’ll face each day with a smile” (2024), will also be on display, along with pieces from other renowned artists such as Adel Abdessemed, Omar Ba, Igor Hosnedl, Gerold Miller, and Jonny Niesche.
In addition to the foreign galleries, 30 Hungarian galleries will be represented at the fair, offering a wide range of works including paintings, sculptures, photos, and installations. From hyperrealism to contemporary Korean art, the Budapest Contemporary Art Fair aims to promote the diversity and talent of both local and international artists.
Aside from the exhibitions, the BCT will also feature a two-day conference on art and business, guided tours, and educational programs for all ages. Furthermore, a charity online auction will be held to support the Autistic Art Foundation, with proceeds from the auction going towards helping individuals with autism.
With a diverse lineup of artists and galleries, the Budapest Contemporary Art Fair promises to be a dynamic and engaging event for art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
