Avalanche and Landslide in Afghanistan Leave 25 Dead and Several Injured

The recent heavy snowfall in Afghanistan has caused a devastating landslide and avalanche in the Nuristan province. Molla Canan Saik, spokesperson for the Ministry of State Responsible for Natural Disasters of the Afghan interim government, reported to the AA correspondent about the tragic event.

According to Saik, the avalanche in the Tetrin valley in Nurgram district has resulted in the burial of many houses under soil and snow. Search and rescue efforts are currently underway, with 25 bodies already recovered and 8 individuals injured due to the disaster.

In addition to the landslide in Nuristan, there have been reports of further casualties in Panjshir province, where 2 mine workers lost their lives and another was injured as a result of an avalanche.

The situation has been exacerbated by heavy snowfall in central and northern parts of Afghanistan, making it difficult for rescue teams to reach many settlements. However, efforts to clear the roads and reach these affected areas are ongoing.

As the search and rescue operations continue, our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time.
