The Bafra District Gendarmerie Command’s Environment, Nature, and Animal Protection Team recently launched an investigation following reports of unfair profits being made through cockfighting at an animal protection and care shelter in Tütüncüler District.
During the raid on the shelter, authorities detained 29 individuals suspected of being involved in illegal cockfighting activities. They also seized two cockfighting rings and six rooster carrying bags. Additionally, five Indian roosters and one Australorp rooster found at the shelter were confiscated.
Among the suspects, YT, DT, and A.Y. are facing charges for providing a venue and opportunity for gambling, while the remaining 26 individuals are being prosecuted for participating in illegal gambling activities.
Following a veterinary inspection, the confiscated roosters were handed over to the Bafra District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing laws against animal cruelty and illegal gambling activities. Authorities continue to crack down on such unlawful practices in order to protect both animals and the community.
