3.1 Million Buildings Registered with Building Certificates – Latest Update
Building Owners Facing Hurdles in Earthquake Strengthening Process
A higher civil engineer, Dr. İhsan Karagöz, has spoken out on the need to open up legal ways for building owners who want to strengthen their buildings in accordance with the 2018 earthquake regulations. He emphasized that the status of buildings with a building registration certificate for the urban transformation process remains unclear and should be resolved as soon as possible.
Many buildings in districts at risk of earthquakes, particularly in cities such as Istanbul and Izmir, have building registration certificates obtained through zoning laws. However, owners who benefit from zoning laws face a precedent problem when trying to apply for urban transformation for their earthquake-risk buildings. The situation creates obstacles for those looking to document the durability of their buildings and apply for building reinforcement.
According to a civil engineer from Beykent University, around 3 million 100 thousand buildings out of 7 million people who are the addressee of the issue are unable to enter the urban transformation and strengthening project process. Lecturer İhsan Karagöz stated that grievances should be resolved as soon as possible to ensure the safety of buildings and expedited the urban transformation process.
Karagöz suggested that buildings with building registration certificates should be coordinated by the Urban Transformation Directorate and built more quickly under the responsibility of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Climate Change. This process would ensure that risky buildings are strengthened and temporary housing is provided, while also creating a financial resource for the state.
Ultimately, addressing the issue of buildings with building registration certificates will not only lead to more earthquake-resistant structures but also boost the economy due to a surge in construction activities. It is crucial to pave the way for building owners who want to reinforce their buildings and ensure their safety without facing legal obstacles.
In conclusion, addressing the issue of buildings with building registration certificates is essential to promote urban transformation and earthquake strengthening efforts in Turkey. By resolving these hurdles, the government can ensure the safety of its citizens and create a booming construction industry while generating significant income for the state.
