378 Requests for Structural Damage Repairs Received by Ministry Institution
After the devastating earthquake of 6.2 magnitude that struck Istanbul at 12:49, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Environment, Urbanism, and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, and Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu rushed to Istanbul to assess the situation. They held a meeting at the AFAD Center to coordinate the response efforts.
Minister Murat Kurum, speaking after the meeting, emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of such disasters. He reassured the public that no building with settlement issues has collapsed so far. He stated that the authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of all residents and to minimize the impact of the earthquake.
Minister Kurum also mentioned that 378 structural assessments have been received so far. A team of 3,000 experts will be deployed to inspect buildings in Istanbul, including hospitals, schools, mosques, and other public buildings. The priority will be given to assessing the structural integrity of public buildings within the next four days.
The government is working tirelessly to address the aftermath of the earthquake and provide assistance to those affected. The cooperation between different government agencies and municipalities is crucial in ensuring a swift and effective response to this natural disaster.
