400 Social Housing Units Built in Earthquake Zone

Foundations Laid for 400 Social Housing Units in Earthquake Zone

After the devastating earthquakes that affected 11 provinces including Kahramanmaraş, the healing process is underway. As part of this process, the foundations for 400 earthquake-resistant social housing units were laid in the Çamurlu District of Battalgazi, Malatya. The project was implemented by Battalgazi Municipality, aiming to provide housing for those affected by the earthquakes.

During the ceremony, Malatya Governor Ersin Yazıcı emphasized that it is not the earthquakes themselves that kill people, but poorly constructed buildings. He expressed his gratitude to Battalgazi Municipality for their efforts in providing social housing. Governor Yazıcı stated that their goal is to make the city a highlight and improve its urban landscape. He mentioned the collaboration between the municipalities, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, and other state institutions to develop the city in the best possible way. He also highlighted the importance of commercial areas as the heart of the city. With over 24,000 ongoing residence projects, the governor expressed confidence in bringing the city back to its feet quickly.

The city of Malatya, known worldwide for its apricots, aspires to be more than just an agricultural hub. Governor Yazıcı declared that Malatya is ready to compete with other major cities and become a quality city on the global stage.

In another announcement, Battalgazi Mayor Osman Güder highlighted the efforts of both the state and local governments in constructing earthquake residences. He stated that the newly laid foundations are designed to withstand earthquakes up to a magnitude of 8. Mayor Güder proudly announced the construction start of 200 houses in the Çamurlu District and an additional 200 social houses under the ring road. The aim is to provide housing for individuals who were not entitled to rights during the earthquake and those who don’t have the opportunity to buy a house.

Battalgazi Municipality’s project includes the construction of 400 social housing units, with 200 units in Çamurlu District and another 200 units in Şehit Fevzi District. Mayor Güder envisions this initiative as a catalyst for change and transformation in the district, ensuring the construction of earthquake-resistant buildings for the benefit of its citizens.

With the foundations now laid, the construction of these social housing units is expected to begin soon. The completion of sewerage works for the earthquake residences is projected to be achieved within two months.

The efforts of Battalgazi Municipality and their dedication to providing housing for those affected by earthquakes are commendable. The initiatives undertaken by the state and local governments demonstrate a strong commitment to help the affected communities recover and rebuild.
