48-Hour Strike Expected to Disrupt Munich Airport

Airlines at Munich Airport face cancellations due to strike
Munich Airport has announced that employees of various companies represented by the United Service Sector Union (Ver.di) will go on strike for 2 days on February 27th and 28th. This strike is expected to have a significant impact on transportation operations, prompting passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
As one of the main hubs for Lufthansa, one of Europe’s largest airlines, Munich Airport is anticipating the cancellation of over 1600 flights planned for the strike dates. The strike was called by the German union ver.di following the second round of negotiations regarding salary improvements for public sector employees and ground-service personnel at Germany’s second largest airport.
Ver.di’s main goal is to enhance the wages of public and ground-service employees at the airport, demanding an 8% increase in wages along with a minimum additional monthly payment of 350 euros and 3 extra days off. Employers are expressing concerns over the financial strain that fulfilling these demands would bring, pointing to existing debts and rising interest rates.
Passengers traveling through Munich Airport during the strike period are advised to stay informed about any potential flight disruptions and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans. The outcome of the strike will have implications not just for employees and employers at the airport, but also for travelers relying on its services.
